Tucson Newcomer and Tourist Guide

Friday, March 28th, 2008

I just came across the “Tucson Newcomer and Tourist Guide” from Tucson.com and I thought I’d pass on this resource to you. It is very thorough in the information it provides, and would even give a few “a-ha” insights to Tucson citizens.

March 29, 8-9 PM: Turn Off Your Lights and Unplug Your Appliances

Friday, March 28th, 2008

earth-hour.jpgFor Earth Hour, Tucsonans are asked to turn off all their lights and unplug their appliances (except your clocks and refridgerators) with the rest of the community this Saturday, from 8 to 9 PM.

How you’ll benefit?

  • Save money (Did you know that just by having appliances plugged in you’re wasting electricity?)
  • Reduce carbon emissions
  • Grow awareness of global warming

We won’t be able to create change unless all of us are on the boat, so please do this for the city of Tucson!

Have No Fear, Californians, We Have In-N-Out Too!

Thursday, March 27th, 2008

innouttucson.jpgI’ve come back from a short trip from Vegas, hanging out with Californian friends of mine. Some have been in Tucson before, and others haven’t. One thing we all had in common was our love for In-N-Out Burger.

Because I was the only one from Tucson out of the group, the conversation spun to “poor ol’ Ron livin’ in Tucson without In-N-Out Burger…” WRONG. I had to let them know and shock their beliefs!

Excuse me, but Tucson is a city of 1+ million people. And we do have In-N-Out. Not only one, but two. Fret no more, my fellow Californians, your worries can be put aside. And in Tucson you can order your Double-Double with Animal Fries. Yay!

Fox Theatre’s Visionary Resigns

Thursday, March 27th, 2008

Herb Stratford, the man who breathed life into Tucson’s Fox Theatre, has resigned and will be out of the Fox Theatre Organization next month. It’s incredible to think of what this man has done for Downtown Tucson. The Fox Theatre was a staple in Tucson’s entertainment offerings back in the day, but it was closed from 1974. You have to understand that this establishment was left for dead, but after Stratford restored it, it became the venue that entertainers who came to Tucson wanted to perform in.

foxtheatretucson.jpgIt’s great the Fox Theatre is up and running while Downtown Tucson is slowly rising back to its prominence. Downtown is definitely a place to go now, but in a couple years it’ll be more of a place to be.

Thank you, Herb Stratford, for your contribution to the city of Tucson.
